My Cancer Story - Part 2: Relapse

On 10/04/04 I had a routine follow up with my oncologist, Dr. Langerak to review my recent CT scans. It was at this appointment that I learned the cancer had returned. Two tumors were found in my pelvic cavity. One located in a lymph node and the other adjacent to the lymph node. The doctors believe that it is metastatic cancer from my previous EGC tumor in my prostate.
When I was told the news I was devastated, this was definitely the last thing I wanted to hear. I had grown comfortable with the routine of the CT scan and clear prognosis from the doctor. But I have the experience of surviving chemo, surgery, and I am confident that I have what it takes to win this round as well.
After consulting with Dr. Einhorn, it was determined that the best treatment was to perform a RPLND surgery to remove the tumors. Dr. Foster/IUPUI will be the surgeon to perform the RPLND. Although a final date has not been set, it appears the surgery will be performed the first week of November.
